Not always but almost

Is it so difficult to find a quiet place online? I am not a frequenter of crowded places on the web: other than social, I avoid forums, community platforms, and other types of aggregative networks. I don’t have much time to keep up with them, but generally, I also don’t have much desire to post online beyond this blog.

Lately, as I have deepened the topic of personal finance, I have been increasingly snooping around and following discussions on Reddit.

I’ve read many threads and very often, not always but almost, very often the questions of the most inexperienced were answered in a sour, angry, arrogant, sarcastic, and nasty way. There was always something the bullies had to prove: that they were better, more experienced, smarter, more skilled, more knowledgeable, more involved. Never, or seldomly, I read comments of closeness, empathy, and support.

Have online communities really become so hostile to confrontation?
