During my recent holiday in Spain, I found myself reflecting on the joy and the freedom I enjoyed moving from one State to another: from not having to change currency, from having my documents recognised, from not having to switch my phone plan, from not having to pay artificial surcharges. Moving between Italy and Denmark is the equivalent of a trip between Bari and Bolzano – there will be differences, and long may they live! – but there will also be things in common, the essential ones, that unite us and make us ‘one people’. .
Shutting ourselves away in our own ziggurats will bring us no wellbeing, nor will it take us far as Humanity. Our greatest progress has come whenever we moved beyond the needs of the single individual.

Before last Christmas I treated myself to a Camp Snap Pro. It’s a simple point-and-shoot camera, born with the idea of being used without too many expectations.

It means knowing every time we leave that the passport we’re holding is a political object that represents rights and privileges together, that a return ticket isn’t just a piece of our logistical organization, but – as we were saying before – what’s missing for migrant people in how they manage their idea of time, that is, the promise that a decision we’re making is reversible, that we can change our mind, that we can go back, that we can break a continuity, that we can leave a place we don’t like.

I’m back to traveling for work. My old project and my new job will require me to travel more often, much like I did in recent years, when four out of every 14 days I spent 800 km away from home.

Last August we visited the Netherlands. We based ourselves in Amsterdam and visited a few places and cities around there. I won’t write a review; it would be impossible to convey its beauty, its costs, its uniqueness, and its immersiveness. It was intense. That’s enough.

I always enjoy reading Manuel’s posts, along with P&B interviews, about the lives of bloggers around the world, what they do, and how they ended up writing online in their own space, independent and extremely personalized.

I’m about to leave for the Netherlands. I’ll spend a few days there with my family. It was a coincidence: Amsterdam wasn’t on my bucket list, but I’m very happy to be going.

One of the things I liked most about Palermo was that you could feel its intimacy every time you turned your gaze. Everything you looked at exuded humanity. And it was fabulous.
